German microscope maker Zeiss has released a new light microscope system called the Lightfield 4D which can be integrated onto their LSM 910 and LSM 990 confocal microscopes.
Lightfield 4D "enables instant volumetric high-speed imaging", according to their press release. Instead of building a Z-stack of image slices, the Lightfield 4D captures an entire 3D volume dataset all at once, which not only speeds collection time, but is more gentle on living organisms.
